Faenza watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)
Faenza Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus): an ancient variety with a medium-large fruit weighing 4-8 kg, and a thin, dark green rind. The ripe flesh is crisp, deep red, and fragrant, with a very high sugar content that ranks among the sweetest. Harvest is staggered, starting in early August and ending in early September.
Mulching the soil with biodegradable plastic film (available for purchase on our website) creates a thermal effect, allowing us to transplant earlier and benefiting the plant in the first weeks of growth. When the fourth leaf emerges, it's a good idea to pinch (also known as pruning) the plant to encourage the development of axillary shoots, which will yield more fruit. However, this should not exceed three-quarters per plant. Thinning beyond this number is recommended. This is a variety worth saving.
