Akoko Mesa Basil (Ocimum gratissimum): a rare African variety, more precisely from Ghana, in West Africa. African basils differ from Europeans, which have balsamic aromas and are used mainly for cooking; from Asian ones that are more used for medicinal purposes, with sweet and deep aromas. Africa, on the other hand, has selected species with a strong scent, sometimes reminiscent of marjoram, not very balsamic, but very rich in nuances, almost "salty". They are used in both cooking and medicine, this in particular accompanies chicken in a traditional dish (Akoko Mesa means "chicken dance"). Cultivation is simpler than other basils, in fact it does not fear full sun and has a reduced water requirement. The plant tends to lignify quickly and develop deep roots, but in height it does not exceed 80 cm. It can be grown in pots but consider using one of suitable dimensions.
