Nunum Basil (Ocimum gratissimum)
FINE STAGIONE
Nunum basil (Ocimum gratissimum): the archetype of African basil, this variety will soon become very popular in Italian gardens. This very large plant, reaching a height of 1.5 mt, is robust, tolerates heat and drought very well, and is perennial unless frost-free. It will be the last basil to succumb to the cold. Its benefits don't end there: the large leaves have a strong scent of oregano, thyme, and fresh herbs with a pleasant spicy finish—practically a Bouquet Garni in a single leaf. You can make pesto with it, eat it raw in salads, make ice cream, or, as we do, use it in tomato sauces—fabulous. For ease of cultivation, sustainability due to its few requirements, and, last but not least, its exceptional taste, it's one of the best basils I've ever grown.
