Shanghai Green Bok Choy (B. rapa var. kinesis): this ancient variety of bok choy (literally small vegetable) differs from the other more common ones because of its organoleptic qualities: the small size, which makes it almost a "baby leaf", along with its smaller stem gives it a tender, sweeter texture, with pronounced herbaceous hints. It can be cooked whole, without separating leaves from stems, due to the aforementioned characteristics. Rapid growth, it will be ready - depending on soil and temperatures- in about a month and a half from sowing.
The color of the stems, jade green and the great balanced taste make it suitable for the most attentive catering and for anyone interested in refined cuisine.
Cultivation does not involve particular attention, but it suffers the frost, which should be minded at the moment of sowing.
To reproduce the seeds, allow the plants to go until the heat of May, when they will begin to bloom and then produce pods that, harvested when dry, will provide lots of seeds. Not to be missed, in Europe, like many of our Asian varieties, it can be found only on our site.
Suitable and recommended for pot cultivation.
