Chantenay Carrot (Daucus carota): this old variety dates from 1929. It is short and triangular, with red heart and pale orange tap root; it is about 10 – 12 cm long and 5 -7cm in diameter.
It has lots of positive qualities that led it throughout time, its delicious taste that makes it very popular in gourmet cuisine, its resistance to cold, probably the most resistant of the species, and last but not least, its reduced length, that allows for it to be cultivated in soils that are only superficially worked or not suitable for normal carrots.
