Tronchuda Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. costata)
Tronchuda cabbage ( Brassica oleracea var. costata ): also known as Portuguese cabbage or Couve Tronchuda, it is a traditional variety of leaf cabbage, highly prized for its hardiness and exceptional sweetness. Unlike white cabbage, it does not form a compact head, but develops an open rosette of large, fleshy leaves. These are large, smooth, and range in color from blue to emerald green. Its flavor is sweeter and less aggressive than other cabbages, and improves even more after the first frosts. In Portugal, it is traditionally served at Christmas. In the field, the plant is hardy, large, and tolerates both cold and heat very well, provided it is watered regularly in the summer.
To have a good and delicate brassica all year round.
