  • Aonaga Jibai Cucumber (Cucumis sativus): Like most Japanese cucumber selections, this variety is exceptionally   sweet, tender and, above all, resistant.
Known in the southern islands of Japan, the seeds have been preserved for generations by an ancient family in the city of Beppu on Kyushu. The long, slender 20-centimeter fruit is bitter-free and very sweet, with small, barely perceptible seeds. The 1939 Tanaka & Co. seed catalog stated: "Resilience and prolific character are praiseworthy characteristics of Japanese cucumber varieties. They are remarkably resistant to drought, humidity, and fungal disease." However, we recommend providing support immediately upon transplanting so that the plant is not in contact with the soil, even in the early stages of growth. A good rule of thumb for all cucumbers is to occasionally thin out the above-ground portion to aerate and prevent moisture buildup. Harvest frequently to increase yields. Leave some fruit from the best plants for seed production.
    Love for Japan rarely disappoints.
