Charleston Grey Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus): an ancient American variety, now naturalized in Italy. The fruits are large, weighing up to 14 kg or more, 60 cm long by 30 cm in diameter, oblong, with pale skin that protects a crisp, flavorful pulp with a strong watermelon flavor, just like "once upon a time." The rind is very thick, protecting the watermelon both during growth—it tolerates even scorching summers—and during storage after harvest. We recommend pruning the plant to reduce water consumption.
