  • Hopi Yellow Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) : a prized cultivar of the People of Peace. The Hopi are the largest indigenous farmers in the Americas; their selections are often focused on sustainability, also due to the semi-desert soil and climate where they grow. This variety is no exception; the plant tolerates drought much better than other cultivars and is undemanding when it comes to soil. It is not vigorous, and the medium-sized fruit (5-6 kg) conceals crisp yellow flesh, sweet but not cloying, with the exotic tip typical of yellow watermelons. A variety suitable for everyone due to its great hardiness, which even "forgives" us some mistakes.

Many, upon first tasting it, call it the most enjoyable watermelon they've ever tasted. It's only demanding on temperature. Sowing occurs in April-May, and it's ready in 75 days from transplanting.
A good tip for this and all watermelons in general: rotate the fruit a little every day, if the weather is humid or cold, so that it ripens evenly and not too much at the bottom.
