Dragon's Breath (Capsicum chinense)
LANCIO SACCHETTI DI NATALE
Dragon's Breath (Capsicum chinense): Many think this cultivar is a legend, that it's just some variant of moruga scorpion or similar. In reality, it was born from a collaboration between Neal Price, NPK Technology, and Nottingham Trent University, and currently grown in Wales. Despite not having an official capsaicin content measurement, producers claim, quite possibly (you'll find out why when you grow it), a value of 2,400,000 SHU, higher than the Carolina Reaper. However, despite the lack of an official measurement, the Carolina Reaper remains the record holder. The berries are small, deep red in color, with wrinkled skin. They are rounded and slightly ribbed, sometimes with a small tip. Stable enough to produce cultivar-compliant products in most productions. The aroma is very spicy, penetrating and aggressive, but not very fruity. Its ferocity is also noticeable when drying; the air is filled with an intense, throat-snatching odor, almost unbearable. Three grams of dry matter per liter of extra virgin olive oil. Grow it and judge for yourself whether it's legend or reality.
