Details
Lima Bean (Phaseolus lunatus) : An ancient variety of giant climbing bean. Its origins are most likely Andean. The plant loves the heat, is very vigorous and productive, and should be transplanted in May for the north and April for the south. Supports 2.50 m high are required. The numerous pods will produce beautiful beans as large and flat as a coin (these beans are also known as Pope's beans or Pope's Coin). It is very useful, especially in Southern Italy, to use these plants to provide sun protection for vegetables that need it, such as large tomatoes . Furthermore, separating two tomato varieties with a row of these beans interrupts the aerial flight of pollinators (insect pollinators) and greatly reduces the possibility of hybridization between the two varieties. Very high in fiber, they are a very healthy food. Approximately 1 kg of beans per plant.
