Green Striped Pickling Melon (Cucumis melo var conomom)
FINE STAGIONE
Green Striped Pickling Melon (Cucumis melo var. conomom): No translation would be possible in Italian. We're entering a unique world: Asian pickling cucumbers, which translate to pickled, brined, fermented, or, in short, preserved, and so far so good. The fact is that they're not cucumbers, but immature melons, like our carrots, but more similar to Asian varieties, such as the Xylangouro or the Armenian snake .
The Green Striped has firm, crunchy flesh, slightly watery, unlike cucumbers, which are never bitter, less herbaceous, and more rounded. In Asia, it is used for pickling, both brined and pickled.
In the field: Green Striped should be grown like a cucumber, with climbing support from transplanting. A good potassium intake will improve the already pleasant flavor.
A rarity for those who love preserves and fermentations.
