Drunkard's Lettuce (Lactuca sativa)

Drunkard's Lettuce (Lactuca sativa): also known as “Red from Trento”  is an ancient variety that adapts to any kind of soil, it doesn't require fertilization, and has limited water requirements. It's necessary to irrigate in moderation, avoiding stagnation.

The leaves display a beautiful green colour with red stripes they are crunchy and of great taste. It is sown from spring to late autumn, its natural growth slows down as temperatures drop.

It can be consumed either by cutting the tender leaves as they grow, minding to leave a few cm above the ground to allow it to grow back, or by collecting the whole head when ready, one to two months, depending on the season. Although this variety is tipically from Trento, it grows well all around the country.
