LANCIO SACCHETTI DI NATALE
Bloody Butcher Corn (Zea mays): This beautiful corn variety appeared in the state of Virginia, USA, in 1840, likely donated by natives. The plant is strong and hardy, reaching a height of 3 meters, with a sturdy stem that resists the wind. The cob (actually called mazzocca) reaches 30 cm, is thick and heavy; the kernels are a deep red color and particularly sweet. It is a flour corn, particularly attractive for its pink color, but also excellent for fodder, thanks to its productivity and hardiness. It is not particularly demanding in terms of soil or water requirements. It takes about 100 days from transplanting.
