Kudu corn (Zea mays): In 1958, the seeds of a very distinctive native corn arrived at the U.S. Germplasm Bank. The white seeds bear a stylized eagle on a blue spot. This corn was used in sacred rituals. However, the seeds were likely hybridized; they produce small, stunted plants, as do the slender corns, which sometimes fail to mature and are losing the eagle markings. Through extensive selection efforts lasting more than five years, the corn was gradually recovered until it became the beautiful corn we see today. Ready in 75 days from transplanting.
A rare corn, for enthusiasts.
