Batik Samarra Melon (Cucumis melo)
LANCIO SACCHETTI DI NATALE
Batik Samarra Melon (Cucumis melo): ancient melon from Iraq, it is named after a city, probably where it was selected. This type of melons are cultivated from the Middle East to Central Asia without the aid of irrigation (dry farming). Its water demand is one of the lowest in the species, it is suitable for hot and dry climates. The fruits reach up to 3 kg, the pulp is green, not very sweet and not particularly tasty; although its organoleptic qualities are not exceptional its cultivation does not require commitment and above all, it allows for considerable water saving. An important fact to note is that taste depends on a big part on the quality of the soil.
This melon is within the varieties included in the guide "Dry farming".
