Piel de Sapo melon (Cucumis melo)

Piel de Sapo Melon (Cucumis melo) : The Pelle di Rospo melon is a typical Sardinian product, grown on the Sinis Peninsula. This very sweet fruit has a wrinkled, green skin with black spots, reminiscent of amphibian skin. The pulp is white, crunchy, and very sweet, weighing an average of 2-3 kg. This variety can be grown dry, thanks to its much lower water requirements compared to other varieties of its species. The oldest, more rustic ecotype has an elongated shape, less rounded than the commercial varieties found on supermarket shelves. Each plant produces 5-6 fruits that keep well (2-3 months).
