  • Prescott Fond Blanc (C.melo): an ancient variety once favored by French growers. The tough, knobbly, heavily ribbed rind hides a delicate, fragrant pulp: floral notes, muscadine grapes, the entire repertoire of ancient cantaloupes. The pulp is less fleshy than today's commercial melons and the rind is much thicker; the fruit only detaches from the vine when fully ripe. These characteristics have excluded it from commercial production, in favor of easier varieties. Its flavor and appearance, however, are exceptional; the Prescott Fond Blanc is a favorite among the many melons we grow, thanks to its beauty and flavor. Let's look at cultivation: the plant is vigorous and benefits from pruning. The average fruit weighs around 3 kg, and ripens quite late: between 75 and 90 days depending on temperatures. The Brix level, which indicates the sugar content, averages 12.5°, tending toward intensely sweet. A variety that will enrich your garden.
