Musquée de Maroc (Cucurbita moschata) : from Morocco this ancient variety of pumpkin is particularly beautiful and tasty, the growths on the skin give it an exotic and particular appearance, furthermore being leathery they protect the fruit.
The plant requires less water than other pumpkins of the same species, is less vigorous, and is resistant to fungal diseases. It adapts to a wide range of soil and climate conditions. Among medium-sized pumpkins, it is best suited for growing on beds, using alternative farming methods, or even in difficult conditions. It can also be grown in open ground, where it will provide immense satisfaction. Each plant produces numerous pumpkins, weighing 3 to 5 kg, with a rounded, sometimes ogival shape. They keep well after harvest. The pulp is sweet inside, like all muscadine pumpkins, but its low-fibrous consistency also makes it excellent for soups or baked. This pumpkin most likely arrived in Morocco from France, where several "embroidered" varieties are grown since the first imports in the 17th century. The Musqée du Maroc is one of the most sustainable pumpkins in terms of cultivation, due to its minimal needs and high hardiness.
