Calabrese Devil's Pepper (Capsicum frutescens)
Diavolicchio Calabrese chili pepper (Capsicum frutescens): an ancient variety typical of Calabria. The plant grows 60 to 80 cm tall, is hardy, and productive. The berries grow upward, in typical bunches, and are about 5 to 6 cm long and bright red.
It's quite spicy, but its distinctive flavor is a spicy, intense one, making it a true Calabrian specialty. Delicious dried, fresh, or sautéed.
The name Diavolicchio refers to several cultivars of the same species, ours in particular was given to us by the Piazza family, customers and passionate growers of Cetraro (Cs).
Growing is simple, the plant is rustic, productive but of medium size, it also adapts splendidly to pots.
Fruiting occurs early and it can be grown easily throughout Italy.
