Isleta Pueblo chili pepper (Capsicum annuum)
LANCIO SACCHETTI DI NATALE
Isleta Pueblo chili pepper (Capsicum annuum): From rarity to rarity, we arrive at this cultivar grown by natives in the village of Isleta, New Mexico. Located 1,500 meters above sea level in the Rio Grande Valley, it is surrounded by "the desert of the Pueblo River plateaus on its western side."
This area, now part of the United States, is a land with a strong indigenous culture, which is why we've included it in the "Mexico Special." Years of selection, far from market demands, have made this chili pepper a masterpiece of flavors and textures.
It's consumed green when fresh and red when dried. Its flavor is pungent, smoky, with fruity notes. In the fields, it's a powerhouse, productive, hardy, and tolerant even to the most intense sun.
It prefers limited irrigation. Two chili peppers come from the Isleta Pueblo: this one and the more commercial and widespread Isleta Long.
It goes without saying that the blood that flows in the veins of the inhabitants of Isleta is the Hopi, the people of peace, even if they have seen little of peace.
