Murasaki pepper (Capsicum annuum)
Murasaki pepper (Capsicum annuum): a wonderful black pepper from Japan. The plant, with dark purple-veined leaves, produces numerous conical peppers 8-10 centimeters long. The deep black color seems to threaten intense spiciness, but instead they are sweet, sometimes with a barely perceptible spiciness, very pleasant. They can be eaten raw while still black, in sushi, or in salads. They lack the heaviness of traditional peppers; incredibly crunchy, they make an excellent snack. Also suitable for pots, they are particularly decorative. To obtain the seeds, wait until they ripen and turn red, and the seeds are thick and yellowish in color.
