De la Vera Pepper - Jeromin (Capsicum annuum var. longum)
Pimentón de la Vera - Jeromin (Capsicum annuum var. longum): This variety produces the famous smoked paprika of the same name, protected by the DOP designation. Like the other local varieties included in the regulations, the berry is approximately 12-14 cm long, elongated, with thick flesh, sweet, not spicy, and excellent flavor, and bright red when ripe. It is also eaten green, but not for the preparation that has made it famous: Pimentón de la Vera is what gives chorizos, the famous Iberian sausage, their smoky taste. It is also present in some variations of octopus à la Gallega. It is also excellent with legumes and pairs well with fish recipes.
In cultivation, the plant is large, up to one meter tall, and very productive. It prefers a sunny location and has average water requirements.
A treasure from our beloved Spanish cousins.
