Brandywine Sudduth Strain Tomate (Lycopersicon lycopersicum)
FINE STAGIONE
Sudduth Strain Brandywine Tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum): Brandywines are beefsteak tomatoes; in fact, they are among the majority of this type of tomato. The beautiful pink fruits are large, with full, firm flesh and few seeds. The taste is sweet but with a distinct acidity, pleasant and fresh. This ancient tomato variety has almost disappeared because its very thin skin makes it difficult to transport and store. It has therefore been replaced by hybrids with thicker skins and characteristics more suitable for mass distribution, at the expense, however, of its fabulous taste and often, because of F1s, the possibility of reproducing the seed. Caution is needed because there are commercial varieties called "Brandywine" that have nothing to do with the ancient varieties, of which the Sudduth Strain is probably the progenitor. It was in fact recovered by Seedsaver Exchange from the Sudduth family, who had been preserving it for over half a century. It is also present in the Solw Food taste ark, for those who want to learn more we leave the link below.
