Ribbed Tomato from Chivasso (L. lycopersicum): Ancient variety cultivated in the production area of Basso Canavese, Chivassese and Colline del Po. There is no certain information on the history of this tomato, it has been cultivated for a long time in these areas as ascertained by the memory of elderly growers. The berries (fruits) have a slightly flattened shape with slight ribs from which the name derives, they can weigh around 300-350 gr. Compared to other ribbed varieties, the taste is more "green" than sweet, more useful for salads than for sauces. This cultivar also has another important botanical peculiarity, the so-called "Fiorone": a large apical flower that must be removed by trimming in order to prevent the formation of an abnormal fruit with a terrible taste; this operation will improve the production of the plant in general.

Costoluto di Chivasso seeds can be requested free of charge by farmers in Piedmont, just add a message to the order in the appropriate box in the cart.
