Details
Wild Galapagos Tomato (Solanum cheesmaniae): A wild species native to the Galapagos Islands, Darwin's homeland, where other species such as pimpinellifolium, which you can find in the catalog, also grow. This perennial species, grown as an annual, produces numerous tiny fruits (berries), measuring a few centimeters or less in diameter. They are edible like regular tomatoes, although their flavor is different—less sweet but not at all acidic. It doesn't tolerate low temperatures well, but it has excellent resistance to fungal diseases and common tomato plant diseases. We keep some plants in the greenhouse (open at the sides for the summer) and use sprinkler irrigation: the cheesmaniae plants have never suffered any problems; in fact, they have proven particularly thriving, more so than those grown outdoors. They also tolerate potting very well.
The dryland farming experiment has given good results.
