Abruzzese Pear Tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum)
LANCIO SACCHETTI DI NATALE
Abruzzese Pear Tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum): a prized and versatile variety from the green heart of Italy. In recent years, Abruzzo has seen a significant decline (up to 40%) in tomato cultivation , particularly of this excellent variety, the flagship of the region's agriculture.
Traditionally used for bottled preserves, it can also be eaten in salads while still green: the pear-shaped berry hides a firm pulp with very few seeds. The flavor, like the aroma, is intense and fresh, and the fruit is medium-large in size, weighing between 300 and 500 grams.
The plant is indeterminate, requires support and good "pruning" (pruning of the axillary shoots) must be carried out.
We also recommend pruning the plant to a height of about one metre and thirty centimetres.
This variety was recovered a few years ago; home cultivation and seed reproduction helps preserve it from genetic erosion.
For those who grow in their region, seeds can be requested free of charge; simply leave a message in the appropriate section of the cart.
