Details
Striped Indigo Plum Tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum): "Indigo" tomatoes are a group of ancient ecotypes that have had little success in Italy. They include all those tomatoes that are blue and black, often striped. Yet they have very interesting characteristics. First of all, they are the richest in anthocyanins, which give the berries their color and, as flavonoids, have antioxidant properties. They love full sun, which helps them develop these compounds.
The Plum Indigo Striped is a unique tomato in many ways, especially its beautiful color, which varies throughout the ripening process: lavender and purple stripes, which transform into brilliant olive green, red, brown, and blue, all on a base that ranges from green to yellow to orange.
Due to its acidic and complex flavor, perfect for eating raw, thanks also to its compact and slightly watery consistency, it can be paired with various dishes for unusual, extraordinary dishes.
Due to its high productivity, it is a "copper" tomato, meaning it produces in bunches, while the word Plum indicates its shape which resembles a plum.
Due to its less developed aerial part, thanks to its less vigorous foliage, it is less exposed to fungal diseases such as downy mildew and powdery mildew.
Due to its long shelf life, which also makes it suitable for trade, it can be kept for a long time both on the plant and harvested.
The tomatoes, ripe 60 days after transplanting, arrive weighing no more than 60 grams. Indeterminate.
