Teosinte (Zea mexicana)

Teosinte (Zea mexicana): About 7,000 to 9,000 years ago, in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico, this herbaceous plant was transformed into the crop that would become the fourth most popular in the world, feeding billions of people. It evolved into hundreds of cultivars with a wide variety of shapes and characteristics. Teosinte gave rise to corn.

Thanks to a particular gene that regulates the secondary branching of plants from this bushy herbaceous plant, it was possible to select today's corn.

It's edible but lacks valuable organoleptic characteristics. It's a hybrid with Zea mais. We offer it as a tribute to the Mesoamerican peoples. A highly temperate plant, pay attention to germination temperatures. It doesn't require special attention during the growing cycle and has low water requirements.
