Tomatillo Amarylla (Physalis philadelphica)
LANCIO SACCHETTI DI NATALE
Amarylla tomatillo (Physalis philadelphica): This tomatillo comes from a European selection. The berry is very similar in shape and weight to the Mexican or Green Tomatillo , but unlike the latter, it does not change color during development: the berry will remain a beautiful yellow. In addition to its aesthetic value, this characteristic allows for the preparation of sauces or dishes of this color, maintaining the acidity of the immature fruit that characterizes this species. Compared to the Green Tomatillo, the Yellow Tomatillo is slightly less acidic, tending toward sweetness even when immature. Harvesting can begin when the "paper" (the casing) that protects the berry is completely filled and tight.
The yellow tomatillo plant grows to one meter tall, with a correct height of 80 x 80 cm, when planted in full sun. It's hardy and highly resistant to diseases and pests. Although it's almost as hardy as a wild plant, rich soil will yield higher yields and more complex flavors.
It doesn't tolerate waterlogging well; water only when the soil is dry. Transplant when temperatures are consistently above 15°C.
Help the plant with a support to support the weight of the numerous fruits.
Harvest in batches starting approximately 60 days after transplanting.
