  • Yellow Swiss Chard (Beta vulgaris var. Cicla): ancient variety grown mainly in continental Europe. The stem (the "coast") is fleshy and displays a  bright yellow colour, thanks to beta-carotene: a carotenoid, that's a vegetable pigments (red, yellow and orange) that are precursors of vitamin A (retinol). Although this is mainly a winter variety, it can be grown throughout the year except in the warmest months. It is sown from spring to autumn,  ready in about 60 days from transplant. The plant reaches the 50 cm of height, so it can also be sown in pots. It would be a good idea to cultivate it along with the Rubarb Chard which is red, so the effect on the view of  balconies or terraced would be amazingly pretty.
