Eysine Gallosa Pumpkin - Peanut (Cucurbita maxima)
Eysines gall squash (Cucurbita maxima): This interesting and ancient squash hails from the village of Eysines in Bordeaux, a region known for its famous wines. It appears in a catalog from 1895 with the name "courge brodée galeuse Giraumon d'Eysines," meaning "embroidered gall squash from the village of Eysines."
It is almost certainly a variant of the Bordeaux Brodé de Thoumain. It quickly became a traditional variety, grown only in its native area until it was exported abroad and immediately became a success.
Due to its distinctive appearance and the numerous growths that stand out against its pale pink skin, giving it a unique appearance, it protects itself well from external attack and keeps well after harvest. It's a hardy variety and easy to grow, and holds up very well on the table. Its firm flesh is very sweet and not at all stringy, making it ideal for delicious winter soups.
