Albenga Trumpet Squash (Cucurbita moschata)
LANCIO SACCHETTI DI NATALE
Albenga Trumpet Squash (Cucurbita moschata): this important and ancient variety from Liguria boasts many qualities. It is very hardy and more resistant to common plant diseases of the family, very productive, has exceptional organoleptic characteristics, and, last but not least, although it is not a Cucurbita pepo, it can be eaten like a zucchini when immature. It is often found in markets at this stage, easily recognizable by the bulb at the end of the fruit. If we decide to let it mature, we can instead enjoy an excellent squash, with sweet orange flesh, comparable to other more well-known varieties.
It can be grown either on supports or pergolas, taking advantage of its climbing habit, or in the ground. In the first case, you'll get long pumpkins; in the second, various shapes, some very decorative.
A smart choice even for those who have little space or don't want a garden that's too demanding.Pumpkins require some care to thrive. Help yourself with our free growing guide. It will guide you from soil preparation to planting:
