Tahitian Melon Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata L.)
LANCIO SACCHETTI DI NATALE
Tahitian melon squash (Cucurbita moschata L.): an extraordinary variety of musk squash from faraway Polynesia. Hardy, it tolerates scorching heat well and is extremely productive; in fertile soil, it will yield an average of 40 to 50 kg per plant.
Vigorous requires a wide spacing, two metres on the row and two between the rows.
The fruits, which resemble the local Albenga trumpet in shape, are quite large, reaching 15 kg, although the average weight is around 6-10 kg. The skin is thin but leathery, a beautiful pink color, and hides a deep orange pulp that is very sweet and fragrant, suitable for a variety of preparations. Once harvested, it can be stored for several seasons. The first harvest is 110 days after transplanting.
